EPIC WIN!
DLC Review from Sarge - Sunday, 29 August 2010 @ 7:03pm
Genre: RPG
Release: 20 August 2010
Developer: SuperMono
Distributor: iTunes
Ever wished your real life was more like an RPG? Well let UK developer SuperMono let your dreams come true!
I think Fry said it best in Futurama - "I'm good at video games and bad at everything else, that's why I wish life was more like a video game". Well now, thanks to SuperMono, life is slightly more like an epic RPG.
Anyone that knows me will know that I'm awful at keeping track of things I need to do. I've tried keeping a diary before, but that doesn't work, and I've tried a few productivity apps on my iPhone, but none of them really kept my attention for more than a week. However, all those apps that failed had one thing in common - none of them promised me sweet sweet loot.

Now, not only can EpicWin offer me sweet loot, but said loot is unlocked once I earn XP from doing crap around the house that I should've done anyway! God knows I love earning XP. Do the dishes? Why I think I'll give myself 100XP for that! Manage to catch the 8.20am train to work? Why that's worth 150XP! Manage to catch the earlier train and actually get to work a bit earlier than usual? CHA-CHING! That's 300XP!
You can even split the 'quests' up into different categories. Taking the bins out once a week? Sounds like an epic Feat of Strength! Need to get through that presentation at work without stuffing up your speech? That sounds like an Feat Of Spirit to me!

EpicWin allows you to list a series of tasks that you need to complete that day, whether it be a one-off event for that particular day, an event in the future that you need to remember (it's Father's Day coming up kids, don't forget!), or even regular events that you must do. Then you simply decide how much XP each of them is worth, and off you go!
Setting the App up at first can be a little time-consuming, but once you get started, it's easy to check off a list of things to do at the end of each day. The app is $3.99, which is a little steep, but with a great streamlined to-do list, some great looking graphics and great humour to the app, I think it's well worth it.
The main downside to the app is the disappointing lack of social interaction. It would've been nice to see what other friends have the app and be able to compare what loot has been unlocked, how much XP they've gained, etc
And hey, if this review can't convince you, then this sweet trailer is bound to do the trick:
Summary
It's a little pricey for what it is, but the motivation of unlocking loot and levelling up your character actually makes me want to get these things done. With plenty of updates in the pipeline, we definitely haven't seen the most of what this handy little app can accomplish!
Pros
- Very easy to use
- Surprisingly addictive
- Heaps to unlock
Cons
- Not enough "social" aspect to it.
- A little bit too pricey
